LONDON (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday urged President Donald Trump to rethink a call to let a U.S. diplomat’s spouse use diplomatic immunity after she was concerned in a deadly automotive crash in England after which left the nation.
Harry Dunn, 19, was killed in August in a street collision close to RAF Croughton, an air drive base in central England that’s utilized by the USA.
“The prime minister urged the president to rethink the U.S. place so the person concerned can return to the UK, cooperate with police and permit Harry’s household to obtain justice,” a Downing Road spokeswoman stated in a readout of a name between the 2 leaders.
Johnson has stated he hoped the diplomat’s spouse, Anne Sacoolas, would select to return to Britain to interact with investigators.
Talking on the White Home, Trump instructed reporters: “It was a horrible accident. We’re going to talk to her and we’re going to see the individual driving the automotive, the spouse of the diplomat, we’re going to talk to her and see what we are able to give you in order that there will be some therapeutic.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Dunn’s mom Charlotte Charles stated after assembly with British international secretary Dominic Raab that no progress had been made over the past week.
“A part of me is feeling prefer it was only a publicity stunt on the UK authorities facet to indicate they’re attempting to assist,” she stated.
Raab stated he shared the frustration of Dunn’s mother and father.
