COLOMBO (Reuters) – Sri Lankan police haven’t discovered sufficient proof to show that Islamic State (IS) militants have been instantly concerned with the Easter Sunday bombings, the chief investigator stated on Wednesday, though the group had claimed duty.
The assaults on church buildings and resorts in Colombo and within the east killed greater than 250 individuals, the worst suicide bombings for the reason that civil struggle in opposition to Tamil separatist fighters led to 2009.
“From the investigations carried out to date there may be not sufficient proof to say that there’s a direct ISIS hyperlink to the Easter Sunday assaults,” Ravi Seneviratne, the top of police legal investigation division, instructed a parliament choose committee probing the April 21 assaults.
Police have stated members of two little-known native Islamist teams, the Nationwide Thawheedh Jamaath (NTJ) and Jamathei Millathu Ibrahim, carried out the bombings.
Some members of those teams could have had coaching from Islamic State in Syria, police have beforehand stated.
