India expresses 'deep dismay' over Maldives prison sentences
NEW DELHI – India says it’s dismayed via the 19-month jail sentence given to a former chief of the Maldives for failing to cooperate with a police investigation.
A Maldives courtroom sentenced Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to at least one 12 months, seven months and 6 days in jail on Wednesday for failing at hand over his cell phone to investigators. Two Best Courtroom judges arrested with Gayoom got the similar sentences.
India’s overseas ministry stated in a remark Thursday that New Delhi realized of the sentences “with deep dismay.”
Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who dominated the Indian Ocean archipelago state for 3 many years, is the second one ex-president jailed underneath President Yameen Abdul Gayoom. He was once arrested in February on fees of making an attempt to overthrow Yameen, his part brother.
